It takes team work to make the dream work!

I feel so very fortunate to have a good staff.  I wish I could say that I was wise enough to have hand-picked each one of them myself.  But, the truth of the matter is that each one came to be part of my team through what I would call "very unusual circumstances."  I can honestly say that I did not go out looking for anyone.  Each individual "just happened" to cross paths with me at some point in time.  After we talked and got to know each other, I saw an opportunity to make a good connection for both that individual and my team.

Carl Smith just celebrated nine years with me.  Carl found out about Personality Insights through an ad in the Yellow Pages.  As far as I know, he is the only one to ever respond to that ad.  I have long since quit paying for it every month because it brought me absolutely zero business - but it did bring me Carl.  What a blessing he has been to this business and to me personally!

When we needed a graphic designer, we placed an ad in the newspaper.  Three people answered that ad.  Two of them were not a fit for us.  However, Pedro Gonzales was exactly what we needed.  He is the greatest artist in the world and has the best attitude of anyone I have ever met.  He is so gifted and has such a great spirit.  Everyone loves Pedro.

Nancy Marbry, my Administrative Director, goes to church with my daughter and son-in-law.  I met her at a Christmas banquet about four years ago and, at the time she was working in an entirely different field.  Over the weeks we became friends and when her job fizzled out, she came to work with me.  It was their loss and my gain!

A few years ago, Shirley Voorhees came to be trained as a Human Behavior Consultant.  She and her husband, Ray, lived in Kansas City at the time.  Through a series of circumstances, her parents moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and it wasn't long before Shirley and Ray came to help them out.  She is now part of our staff and is a great editor, writer, seminar speaker and friend.  There is no way I could have planned all of the details necessary to make that move happen.

Patrick Pettibon heard me speak at a convention years ago.  On one of my trips to Dallas, he and a friend joined me for lunch to talk about doing some training for his friend's company.  That training never worked out but, in the meantime, Patrick and I became good friends.  As our Director of Technical Marketing, he has put together almost the entire technological aspect of Personality Insights.  What a genius!  I feel fortunate indeed to have someone as smart as Patrick on our team!

JJ Brun, our Director of International Operations, found Personality Insights while surfing the web one night.  He saw that he could come to Atlanta to be trained as a Human Behavior Consultant, so he came for his first training in 2000.  Back at home in Canada, he started the wheels rolling to have an arm of Personality Insights up there.  He lined up so many speaking opportunities for me in Canada that I had to expand our business into another country!  (I just wish they had a little bit warmer weather up there!)

Guy Harris came to training several years ago with his wife, Sandra.  Guy is a rocket scientist.  (Well, not literally, but he is that smart!)  When he first was exposed to the personality information, he thought it was all a bunch of "psycho-babble."  I find it amusing to see how immersed he became once he saw the power of the information and how it affected his own personal life, marriage and parenting skills.  He is now our Director of Training and Programs.

Our Communications and Database Administrator, Gina Floyd, is Nancy's daughter.  By working out of her home and spending tons of time on the computer, she keeps our team organized.  She is so bright, cheerful and has a great spirit.  She also is the one who distributes the Tips you receive each week.

Meagan Ball came to us as a friend of Gina's.  Meagan handles all of our orders, answers the phones, helps run the day-to-day operations of Personality Insights and helps Nancy in bookkeeping matters.  And she is a pre-med major!  What in the world am I doing with a pre-med student working here on a day-to-day basis?  It is because she has a great heart.

I have never wanted to have a bunch of "yes" people around me and I do not think that I do.  However, I believe that I am surrounded by an incredible "dream team" because everyone works hard, is dedicated and wants to do their very best at their particular job.

I would encourage you to remember, as it relates to your dreams, that no one is an island.  It is impossible to do everything yourself.  However, if you are surrounded by good people, there is no limit to the success you and the team can achieve.  Don't simply try to find the right people.  Seek to let the right people come to you.  If that is the case, it will be a joy for everyone concerned.
