Tip
of the Week
Life and death are in your words!
The message of this particular Tip may be the easiest to use, yet the one least practiced. The reason I say it is the easiest one to use is that we each have complete control over what comes out of our mouth and what we say to others. Yet, many of us fail to see the power that is directly associated with our words.
Often when I speak to an audience, I spend a few minutes talking about this powerful idea. I always feel a little “unheard” when I see their response. Most of them just stare at me and very, very few of them take notes. It seems as if I am speaking into the wind! The power of our words is a concept that anyone should be able to understand easily, but judging by the response of the audience, I either do not make my point very clear, or they are not able to receive what I am trying to say. It is almost as if I have asked the audience to remember to breathe. No one is going to take notes on that because they will be thinking, “Well, I am going to do that!” But, people often do not see that their relationships with other people, the success of their endeavors, their own physical health, and many other facets of life are directly related to the way they talk about things.
Life-giving words are words that are filled with encouragement, enthusiasm, support, hope, possibilities, and many other positive aspects to daily living. Words of death are filled with despair, hopelessness, negativity, and cynicism. They are harsh in nature.
When we speak words of life to others, it causes them to try harder and do better in everything they attempt to do. When we speak words of death to people, it causes them to not only stay away from us, but to give up and not try. I realize there are times that we all need to say difficult things to someone, but even when we do so, we could do it in a gentle way that perhaps would bring about the desired end without destroying the relationship in the process.
This week, pay closer attention to the words that come out of your mouth. Ask yourself if they are words of life or death. Ask yourself whether or not they are words you would want someone to say to you.
I am constantly amazed at the power of our words! It is the primary tool that brings about success in sales, relationships, teamwork, and possibilities for the future. The ability to speak words of life brings rich results and great rewards.
You are a great person and I am counting on you to succeed in all you do! See how powerful words are? Now go and do likewise!
